Victor Maas, LCSW
Therapist
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field. I work with adolescents ages 15 and older and adults experiencing a wide range of concerns, with particular experience in anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, panic attacks, and grief. My goal is to use effective clinical approaches while tailoring therapy to your individual needs and helping you work toward meaningful improvement in your life.
My Approach to Therapy
My style is conversational, direct, and collaborative, and I believe humor can have a place in therapy too. I want our sessions to give you an opportunity to openly process what you're experiencing while also receiving feedback and practical strategies that can help you move forward.
I use evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), along with specialized approaches for trauma and grief. We'll work together to identify specific goals and determine which strategies are most helpful for what you're experiencing.
What to Expect When Working With Me
Many of my clients come to therapy because they're feeling anxious or worried, down or depressed, grieving a loss, processing trauma, experiencing panic attacks, or struggling with difficult thoughts and emotions. You don't need to have everything figured out before we meet.
Our first appointment gives us an opportunity to get to know one another, explore what brought you to therapy, and begin developing goals together. I believe a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship is essential, so I'll take time to understand your background, current challenges, and what you hope to accomplish.
If you're nervous about starting, you don't need to prepare anything special for your first session. Therapy is a place where you can talk through your concerns without judgment while receiving support, feedback, and strategies that fit your needs.
If you're ready to get started, please reach out. I'm ready to help.
Frequently Asked Questions
What concerns do you specialize in?
I have experience treating a wide range of mental health concerns and particularly specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, panic attacks, and grief. I work with adolescents beginning at age 15 as well as adults.
What is your therapy style?
My style is conversational and collaborative, but I'm also direct and willing to provide feedback. I use humor when appropriate and partner with you to develop specific goals for therapy. Depending on your needs, I may incorporate ACT, CBT, DBT, or specialized approaches for trauma and grief.
What should I expect during my first therapy appointment?
Our first appointment is an intake session that gives us an opportunity to get to know each other, discuss what brought you to therapy, and begin identifying your treatment goals. Building rapport is important to me, so the first few sessions are also about developing a strong therapeutic relationship.
Do I need to prepare anything before therapy?
No. You generally don't need to prepare anything before your sessions unless I ask you to do something specific for treatment. Sessions typically begin on a weekly basis so we can build momentum around the concerns that brought you to therapy.
How do I know if you're the right therapist for me?
I believe therapy works best when there is a strong and trusting relationship between the therapist and client. I'll take time to understand your experiences, current challenges, and personal goals so we can work together in a way that feels both supportive and effective
