ADHD Evaluation
ADHD Evaluations by Dr. Goldberg & Associates
We offer evaluations for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The evaluation takes place in our office or virtually. We use a combination of interviews, questionnaires, and rating scales to help diagnose the presence of ADHD. After we suspect that ADHD is present, we go the extra mile to determine if there are other factors affecting you and to determine if your ADHD symptoms are due to another condition. Additionally, this extra step helps to improve the accuracy of our diagnosis. We use all of this information to help answer the question - Is it ADHD or something else?
Why Should I Get Tested for ADHD?
Comprehensive psychological testing provides diagnoses and has the following benefits:
- Ensures the correct treatment.
- Your providers can use your results to create a tailored treatment plan and prescribe the appropriate medications if applicable to help manage your symptoms.
- Greater understanding of yourself and the root causes of your challenges
- Many patients struggle with self-blame surrounding the challenges accompanying ADHD/ADD. Getting answers can reduce frustration and help patients have a greater sense of self-understanding and acceptance.
Testing Process
We require a referral to be tested, since this is usually required by your insurance company and it also helps us pair you with the provider who is the best fit. If you have a referral, you can email it to us at [email protected] or fax it to us at (703) 935-0057. If you need a referral, please reach out to us at [email protected] or at (703) 935-0058 to get paired with one of our therapists. We generally require at least three sessions with a therapist prior to providing a referral. Referrals are based on the provider's clinical judgment that testing is medically necessary.
After the initial intake, your testing psychologist will create a custom testing plan and determine which testing batteries are best suited to your unique situation. You will then be scheduled for a testing session, which usually takes approximately four hours and can take place over two sessions if additional testing is needed.
Once the testing session and all questionnaires are completed, your testing psychologist will prepare your comprehensive testing report that details your history and the results of your evaluation as well as treatment recommendations. This can take up to six weeks.
We will schedule a feedback session after your testing report is complete. During your feedback session, the provider will review your results with you and answer any questions you may have. We are unable to release the report prior to your feedback session to ensure that the results are understood clearly.
Can I use Insurance for Psychological Testing and Evaluations?
Yes, you can, but it is dependent on your plan. We are in-network with Anthem, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CIGNA, and United Healthcare.
*Please note that we are not in-network with Medicare and Medicaid.
Most insurances will cover testing if it is medically necessary. This is why a referral is necessary. Some insurances do have limitations on the type of testing you are eligible, for example, some insurances only cover in-person testing.
We highly recommend calling your insurance company to ask if they will cover testing and whether it needs to be in-person or if the testing can be virtual. When you call, ask about the following CPT Codes: 96130, 96131, 96132, 96133, 96136, and 96137.
*When you call, please get the representative's name and a reference number for the call in case they later state the sessions are not covered.
