Dr Isaac Wood, MD

Dr. Wood is a board-certified Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist. He has over three decades of experience treating patients in various settings. During this time, Dr. Wood was a Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at Virginia Commonwealth University and the Senior Associate Dean of Medical Education and Student Affairs.

For two decades, he helped to prepare the physician licensing examination and served as a representative of the American Association of Medical Colleges, participating in visits to assure the accreditation of medical schools in the United States. He also trained future physicians, oversaw the curriculum for the medical school, and taught/supervised physicians specializing in Psychiatry.

For the past three years, Dr. Wood has been in his private practice seeing adults with various psychiatric disorders, including mood and anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, and patients with co-morbid psychiatric and medical conditions. His focus has been on men's mental health and working with sexual minority patients. Dr. Wood is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He focuses on patient autonomy, viewing the physician-patient relationship as a working team whereby the physician educates the patient about his/her health conditions, provides options for treatments, including the pros and cons, and then assists the patient in making the decisions about healthcare that best meets their individual needs.

He is avid in the sport of dog conformation and has bred/shown dogs that have been winners at the Westminster Kennel Club.
