Dr. Jewel C. Gear, Psy.D.

Dr. Jewel Gear is a licensed clinical psychologist with 24 years of clinical experience. She holds a master's degree in forensic psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology. She did her internship at the Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology at Boston University Medical Center. Dr. Gear has worked with clients across the age, race, gender and diagnostic spectrums, providing all forms of therapy. Her areas of specialization include trauma, anxiety related disorders, Type A/overcontrol tendencies, impairments in executive functioning, and race and acculturation issues. Dr. Gear identifies as an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and is bilingual in English and Spanish.

In her spare time, Dr. Gear spends time with her personal and foster dogs and relaxes by doing somatic exercises. She believes that when you choose a therapist, you are choosing a trusted confidante to be with you during some of the most important times in your life. Her job is to help you understand yourself and your past, as you navigate those times. Dr. Gear uses evidence-based strategies to aid in clarifying your thoughts and feelings, so you can make better choices. Together, you will work on enhancing communication and coping skills, which will allow you to improve your relationship with yourself and others. She takes a non-judgmental stance, balancing empathy with accountability, to help you change unproductive behavior. Ultimately, her goal is to give you the knowledge and skills that you need to succeed.
