About Me

I’m a Clinical Mental Health Counselor who is passionate about helping people navigate life’s challenges, heal from difficult experiences, and recognize their own strength and potential. My graduate education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Leadership, and Ministry has shaped the holistic perspective I bring to my work with clients. Outside of my work with clients, I enjoy writing, encouraging women, ministry work, and spending time with my family.

I work with children beginning at age 8, teens, adults, older adults, couples, families, and parents/caregivers. I also enjoy supporting professionals who are balancing the demands of work, relationships, family responsibilities, and their own well-being. My areas of focus include anxiety and stress, relationship and communication concerns, life transitions, self-esteem and confidence, trauma, and grief. I also have experience helping clients with depression, emotional regulation, family conflict, parenting concerns, burnout, and substance use concerns.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is compassionate and collaborative while also being practical and goal-oriented. I want you to feel heard, but I also want therapy to help you understand patterns, gain new perspectives, and develop tools you can actually use in your everyday life.

Sessions with me are conversational and interactive. I balance listening with thoughtful questions, honest feedback, and practical strategies. I can be direct when it’s helpful, and we may work on skills such as emotional regulation, grounding, communication, setting boundaries, cognitive reframing, and problem-solving. I primarily focus on what is happening in your life today while exploring past experiences when they help us better understand current patterns.

I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, strengths-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness and grounding techniques, and psychoeducation. Rather than using the same approach with everyone, we’ll focus on strategies that fit your needs and the goals we identify together.

What to Expect When Working With Me

You may be considering therapy because you feel overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, stuck, or simply haven’t felt like yourself lately. Maybe you’re overthinking, struggling in a relationship, having difficulty setting boundaries, dealing with grief or a major life transition, or feeling like you’re taking care of everyone except yourself. Sometimes there isn’t one specific crisis—you simply know that something needs to change.

You don’t have to have everything figured out before your first appointment. We’ll use that time to get to know one another, talk about what brought you to therapy, and begin identifying goals that feel meaningful and realistic. I’ll help guide the conversation, and you can share at your own pace.

I believe finding the right therapist is about finding someone you can be honest with and who can support you while also challenging you to grow. If you’re looking for a therapist who is compassionate and encouraging but also interactive, goal-oriented, and willing to offer honest feedback and practical tools, we may be a good fit.

You don’t have to stay in survival mode. If you’re ready to better understand yourself, build healthier patterns, and work toward greater confidence and peace, I look forward to supporting you along the way.

Frequently Asked Questions

What concerns do you help clients with?

My primary areas of focus include anxiety and stress, relationship and communication concerns, life transitions and personal growth, self-esteem and confidence, trauma, and grief. I also have experience helping clients with depression, emotional regulation, family conflict, parenting, burnout, and substance use concerns.

What is your therapy style?

My style is conversational, collaborative, and interactive. I’ll listen and give you room to process, but I’ll also ask questions, offer feedback, and help you develop practical strategies. My goal is for you to leave sessions feeling heard while also gaining an insight, perspective, or tool you can use outside of therapy.

Do I need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy?

No. You don’t have to wait until something becomes unbearable to seek support. Therapy can be helpful if something is affecting your relationships or peace of mind, you’re navigating a transition, you notice patterns you want to change, or you simply want to better understand yourself and grow.

What should I expect during my first appointment?

We’ll spend time getting to know each other and discussing what brought you to therapy, your current concerns, relevant history, strengths, and what you’d like to accomplish. You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have your goals figured out beforehand. I’ll help guide the conversation.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

You may find that we’re a good fit if you want someone who listens without judgment but is also willing to ask thoughtful questions, provide honest and compassionate feedback, and help you develop practical tools. During our first few sessions, we’ll have an opportunity to see whether my personality and approach feel right for you.

Felicia provides in-person appointments at our Stevenson Alexandria office, as well as telehealth services for clients who prefer to meet virtually.
