How to Request a Medication Refill

If you are a medication management patient at Dr. Goldberg & Associates, refill requests and non-emergency medication concerns should be sent through our online patient portal.

Using the portal helps your psychiatric provider receive the information needed to review your request and respond appropriately.

Request a Refill Through the Patient Portal

To request a medication refill, log in to our secure online portal:

Dr. Goldberg & Associates Patient Portal

When submitting your refill request, please include:

  • The name of the medication
  • The dosage
  • The pharmacy name
  • The pharmacy location

Providing complete information can help reduce delays in processing your request.

If you need help accessing the portal or do not have your login information, contact our team for login assistance and support.

How Long Do Medication Refills Take?

Medication refill requests are typically completed within 5–7 business days.

Processing may take longer if your provider needs clarification, additional information, or an appointment before the refill can be approved.

Because refill requests require clinical review, we recommend submitting your request before you are close to running out of medication whenever possible.

You May Need an Appointment Before a Refill

Some refill requests require an appointment with your psychiatric provider before a prescription can be renewed.

If you have not been seen within the past 3 months, an appointment is required before your medication can be refilled.

To schedule an appointment, please call:

(703) 935-0058
Press 2 when prompted for scheduling.

Keeping regular medication management appointments gives your provider an opportunity to review how your medication is working, discuss side effects or new symptoms, and determine whether any treatment changes are needed.

Refill Requests After Missed or Unscheduled Appointments

If you have missed a required appointment or do not have an appropriate follow-up appointment scheduled, a refill is not guaranteed.

Refill requests following missed or unscheduled appointments are handled at the clinician's discretion and may incur a $30 refill fee.

Your provider may require you to schedule and attend an appointment before approving additional medication.

Use the Portal for Medication Concerns & Symptoms

The patient portal is also the appropriate place to communicate non-emergency concerns related to your psychiatric medications or symptoms.

Visit our page on how to communicate symptoms and concerns to your medication management provider.

What Information Should I Include in My Refill Request?

To help your provider review your request efficiently, include all of the following:

Medication: The full name of the prescription
Dosage: The strength and dosage you are currently taking
Pharmacy: The name of your pharmacy
Location: The city or specific pharmacy location

If your pharmacy has changed since your last prescription, be sure to include the new location.

Incomplete requests may require follow-up and could delay processing.

Refill requests are generally completed within 5–7 business days, provided no additional information or appointment is required.

Can I call the office for a refill instead of using the portal?

Medication refill requests should generally be submitted through the online patient portal so your psychiatric provider can review the request and required information in one place. If you are experiencing issues with the portal, please reach out to our team directly at [email protected] or via phone at (703) 935-0058 (Option 2).

What if I have not seen my provider recently?

What if I am completely out of medication?

If you are completely out of medication, submit your request through the portal as soon as possible. Refill requests are still subject to clinical review and normal processing requirements.

If you need immediate care or are experiencing an urgent medical or psychiatric situation, go to the nearest emergency room.
