About Me

“Each one, reach one, teach one” is a quote I embrace in both my life and my work as a therapist. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland and have been practicing since 2000. With more than 25 years of experience, I bring compassion, empathy, direct feedback, and practical strategies to help adults navigate life’s challenges and work toward meaningful change.

I work with adults ages 21+ experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, low self-esteem, and major life transitions. My broader experience includes trauma and PTSD, grief and loss, OCD, panic and phobias, bipolar and other mood concerns, sleep difficulties, relationship challenges, divorce and infidelity, parenting concerns, racial and cultural identity, and other emotional and behavioral challenges.

My Approach to Therapy

My style is active, conversational, compassionate, and direct. I believe therapy should give you an opportunity to feel heard while also helping you learn productive ways to cope with the challenges you’re facing. During sessions, I balance listening with clinical feedback, practical strategies, and psychoeducation that you can apply to your everyday life.

I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Strength-Based Solution-Focused Therapy, and mindfulness-based strategies. Depending on your needs, we may explore experiences from your past, address what’s happening in your life today, and identify positive changes that can help you move toward the future you want.

Who I Work With

Many of my clients come to therapy because they’re looking for a supportive place to openly discuss thoughts, feelings, and concerns they may have been carrying on their own. You may be struggling with anxiety or depression, overwhelmed by stress, adjusting to a major change, questioning yourself, or simply feeling that the way you’ve been coping is no longer working.

Together, we’ll identify your strengths and develop healthier ways to navigate life’s stressors, with the goal of improving your daily functioning, overall well-being, and quality of life.

What to Expect When Working With Me

Our first appointment will give us an opportunity to talk about your history, what you’re experiencing now, and what you would like to change. We’ll begin identifying your goals and determining how therapy can best support you. My goal is to provide an empathetic and supportive environment where we can have an open conversation about what brought you to therapy.

If you’re nervous about beginning therapy, we’ll work collaboratively at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we’ll identify both the strengths you already have and the areas where you would like to grow.

Frequently Asked Questions

What concerns do you specialize in?

I primarily work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, stress, low self-esteem, and life transitions. I also have experience with trauma and PTSD, grief, OCD, panic and phobias, mood concerns, sleep difficulties, relationship concerns, parenting challenges, and other emotional and behavioral concerns.

What is therapy with you like?

I’m an active and conversational therapist. I’ll listen carefully to what you’re experiencing, but I also provide direct feedback, psychoeducation, coping strategies, and evidence-based tools. I want our sessions to help you understand what’s happening while also giving you practical ways to create change outside of therapy.

Do you focus on the past or what’s happening now?

Both. Sometimes understanding past experiences helps make sense of what’s happening today. We’ll explore the past when it’s useful while also focusing on your current challenges and the positive changes you want to make moving forward.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

If you’re looking for an empathetic therapist who works collaboratively while also being direct and providing practical, evidence-based strategies, we may be a good fit. I believe therapy should help you better understand yourself while giving you tools that support your treatment goals.

Taking the Next Step

In the hustle and bustle of a stressful and constantly changing world, making time for yourself can be difficult. I look forward to working collaboratively with you, helping you learn healthier ways to navigate life’s obstacles, and supporting you as you work toward your goals and fullest potential.

Armaria conducts her sessions exclusively via telehealth, providing convenient and accessible virtual appointments.
