About Me

Hi, I’m Cassidy Tolley, MSW, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker that has been providing outpatient psychotherapy since 2020. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults, particularly those navigating trauma and PTSD, identity and relationship concerns within the LGBTQ+ community, and neurodivergent individuals.

I grew up in West Virginia, and have a deep appreciation for working with people from rural communities and those seeking a safe space to be themselves. In my free time, I enjoy hiking with my dog, catching a live show, or trying a new coffee shop.

My Approach to Therapy

In session, I use a mix of relational therapy approaches to help tailor treatment to your goals. In my office, I focus on building trust, collaboration, and the use of a little humor to create a safe and reliable relationship. I enjoy using here-and-now and solution-focused approaches to build and practice skills as needed.

Many of my clients come to me because they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or exhausted from trying to manage everything on their own. This might include overthinking, struggling with anxiety or difficult emotions, having a hard time setting boundaries, or feeling like their thoughts are constantly running in the background. Clients may be navigating the effects of past experiences or trauma, questioning aspects of their identity, experiencing challenges in relationships, or trying to better understand themselves and their needs.

What to Expect When Working With Me

During your first appointment, we will go over your background and what brings you to therapy. This session is focused on getting to know you, understanding your current concerns, and beginning to look at your future goals. The purpose of this session is also to establish comfortability and safety in the therapy space. I encourage my clients to ask me questions if they come up so that we can make sure that we are the right fit together.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and focused on creating a space where you can feel comfortable being yourself while developing practical tools to better understand and manage what you’re experiencing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do you work with?

I have experience working with adolescents/teens, young adults, college students, and adults ages 14+. I enjoy and am passionate about working with people in the LGBTQIA+ community and those in transition, neurodivergent clients, anxiety, depression, life adjustments, and women’s issues.

What question do clients ask you most frequently?

I am often asked, “Can I just read you the text chain?” My answer will always be absolutely, and please begin from the top!

What if I’m nervous about starting therapy?

That’s completely understandable! Therapy is deeply personal and should feel like a safe, supportive space where you can be yourself without judgment. You don’t need to have everything figured out in order to begin; that’s what we can do together!

What states are you licensed in?

I am licensed in Virginia and West Virginia.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

The therapeutic relationship is built on trust and safety. It’s important to me that my clients feel that we are a good fit, and if we are not, that’s okay! My focus is on making sure that your therapeutic needs are met, and I am happy to help you work towards that whether that be with me or another provider. I encourage feedback so that we can collaborate on what works best for you in therapy.
